LA, California: The Hotel California

LA, California: The Hotel California

I went to LA in December of 2016, and that was my second time going there and both times I went were in December. If you are planning on going to California, I would suggest to not go in December if you are hoping for hot weather. I’m from Canada and even I was chilly when I wore my shorts and t-shirts.

I would suggest the spring or early summer would be the best time to go there. Even though I’ve only been there in the winter.

This time around, my family and I stayed at The Hotel California. Even though the hotel was only rated two stars, I believe it was very clean and the friendliest staff I have ever met!

The rooms were very unique, I did not fell like a hotel at all, which is what I liked most about it. Every corner of hotel had character and it was a very pleasant stay.

The location of The Hotel California is amazing. The Hotel California is about a two minute walk to the Santa Monica beach, which is beautiful and to my surprise, very clean. The beach was also not very busy at all, and was very relaxing to take a walk at sunset.

The Santa Monica beach has a pier that has an amusement park on it. It is called the Santa Monica Pier. Although I never went on any of the rides, it was a very cool experience to walk around the pier and take in the fun atmosphere that it was giving off.

If the weather was warmer, I’m sure I would of spent a lot more time on the beach.

Next time I go back to California, it will be in the spring time so I can hopefully get a tan.

During my summer of 2016 trip to BC, I went to Davison Orchards. It is located in Vernon BC and is a great tourist spot.

Davison Orchards is a family run orchard (obviously) that is open year round and is full of fun activities for families. Including visiting the animals and picking fruit! Children can also get a ride in the miniature train carts.

One of Davison Orchards main attraction is their pies. They are the most delicious pies you will ever eat! They grow the fruit all themselves and make them fresh right there on the farm.

They have a huge shop where you can buy all of their delicious home made treats. They have everything from their freshly picked fruits, homemade jams and pies, to even delicious home made apple juice.

They also have a cafe on the farm that you can enjoy a freshly made sandwich or soup with a slice of homemade pie.

If you are ever in Vernon BC, I highly recommend visiting Davison Orchards.

In the summer of 2016, I traveled to British Columbia (BC) for the first time in my life. Lots of Albertans may find it strange that I lived in Alberta my whole life, I’ve even been to every other province in Canada, but I never went to BC even thought it is just one province to the left from Alberta.

If you ever get the opportunity to visit BC, I highly recommend it. It is so beautiful.

When I Went to BC, I stayed at a condo in Sicamous. Sicamous is a small tourist town in BC and is located adjacent to the Trans Canada Highway on the Shuswaps lake.

The water is crystal clear and surprisingly a very good temperature for swimming, boating, tubing, water skiing, and any other water activity that you would like to do.

Sicamous also has these two ice cream places that make delicious ice cream. The one makes soft ice cream is called “licks n splits”.

The other Ice cream store is called Dutchman Dairy, and they specialize in hard ice cream and they make homemade everything! Ice cream, milk, and even cheese. They have a full running farm that customers can visit the animals and even pet the baby dairy cows.

BC is full of beautiful towns and has a million different unique places to visit. Sicamous is the only place that I’ve been in BC and it was absolutely beautiful, I highly recommend it.

Barcelona

Barcelona

During my last couple days on my 2015 Europe trip, my class and I were in Barcelona, Spain, which is absolutely beautiful!

We saw Catalunya Square, walked the mile long La Rambla as well as a few side streets and then we saw the statue of Christopher Columbus where he looks west over the Mediterranean Sea (sorry I can’t find my photos of the statue).

On my final day of my 2015 Europe trip, we learned about the amazing architect, Gaudi, who designed the Sagrada Familia and created the Parc Guell which was really a real estate failure but has the most beautiful mosaics in the world.

If you ever go to Barcelona, I highly recommend going to Parc Guell, it is absolutely stunning!

Sagrada Familia – a cathedral that has been under construction since 1882. I were amazed at the four different facades that show the architect’s interpretation of the Bible.

Barcelona is absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend going there. If you do go, make sure you go on a bike tour, I heard they are amazing and I’m so sad that I did not go on one when I was there.

Montmartre

Montmartre

During my 2015 trip to Europe with my class, we visited Montmartre in Paris. Montmartre is the largest hill in Paris and was home of some famous artists and has been featured in many films (including La vie en rose).

montmartre07

We walked to Montmartre led by our tour guides. On the way up the hill, one of our guides would stop us at various locations and talked about three different periods of Art: Cubism, Impressionism and Surrealism. We then visited the former homes and art studios of Vincent VanGogh and Pablo Picasso.

We stopped by a unique sculpture while One of our tour guides told us the story of Le Passe-Muraille by Marcel Ayme, or also known as The Man who Could Walk Through Walls.

It is  a beautiful french short story that I encourage you to look up and read the translated version. I also encourage you to visit this street if you are ever in Paris. It was one of my favourite parts of my trip and it was such a beautiful and educational walk.

Palace of Versailles

Palace of Versailles

My favourite thing that I did in Paris on my 2015 Europe trip with my class was when we went to the Palace of Versailles.

When I was in grade 11 at high school, I learned all about the Palace of Versailles. Which I’m guessing most high school students learned about in their history or social classes. Visiting the palace was absolutely amazing!

I can’t even describe it, thats how beautiful and amazing it is! I know it is a super busy and popular monument in Paris, it is a must see! Also, before you go, you should brush up on the history of this place because it makes the experience so much more amazing.

Palace of Versailles is a must see! but when you go, make sure to spend the whole day there, because there is so much to see. The garden is huge and will take the whole day to explore the whole thing.

Paris Part 2 – The Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe

Paris Part 2 – The Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe

10458627_10206886994359108_3539453627779220949_nDuring my 3 days in Paris during my schools Europe trip in the spring of 2015, we got to see and visit a lot of monumental places in Paris! I’ve already talked about visiting Notre Dame in my last post, so in this post I’m going to talk about visiting the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe.

When I, lets say “visited”, the Arc de Triomphe my tour bus just drove around the traffic circle that surrounds the Arc de Triomphe twice… That was it. To no surprise it upset me. I really wanted to explore around it. But I still got some good photos out the bus window. If I ever get the chance, I’m going to go back to Paris to actually visit the Arc de Triomphe.

11050675_10206886987038925_6388103327304485851_n11179955_10206886991159028_4841388492776501922_nAnother disappointment of my Paris adventures was not actually going up the Eiffel Tower. I got great photos of it and got to experience in a different way than how most tourist experience it and I highly recommend what I did!

The first way we visited the Eiffel Tower was that my classmates and I were at the opposite end of the park that the Eiffel Tower is located. This park is called Champ de Mars.

If you look on google maps street view, you can practically tell exactly where I was standing. We got some good friend photos from this location.

montparnasse1The second way we visited the Eiffel Tower was by going to Montparnasse. Which is a very tall building in Paris (54 stories to be exact) that has an open patio at the top. The whole roof of this building is open to walk around and look at the skyline of Paris.

It is an absolute amazing view from the top! Even my photographs, which do look stunning, cannot do it justice.

eiffeltower1

If you ever go to Paris, I highly recommend visiting Montparnasse and going to the top to see this beautiful view for yourself! It will absolutely blow you away!

The third and final way that we visited the Eiffel Tower on my school trip was by going on a night tour boat that floated down the Seine river. At night, the Eiffel Tower lights up with these magnificent lights and just sparkles and glows.

I would show a photo of it but I have just recently found out that taking photos of the Eiffel Tower at night is illegal and I can be fined if I upload my photo on social media… So I’m going to make the smart decision and not put it up. But I do encourage you to google the Eiffel Tower at night and see what I’m talking about! You won’t be disappointed.

So to wrap it all up, even though I did not go up the Eiffel Tower, I still experienced it in a great way! On the other hand, if I ever go back to Paris, I’ll make sure I go up the Eiffel Tower and I’ll definitely make sure that I visit the Arc de Triomphe!

Paris Part 1- love lock bridges and Notre Dame

Paris Part 1- love lock bridges and Notre Dame

11051889_10206886973878596_2784245892654895353_nDuring my Europe trip in the spring of 2015, our second stop was Paris. On our first day there we saw and went inside Notre Dame. It was absolutely amazing! the architecture was fascinating and the stain glass was beautiful! Even though from the line up looked like it would take forever to get inside, it only took about 30 minutes!

once we finally got inside, I could not believe that I was actually inside Notre Dame! I can’t express how amazin
g it was! If you ever go to Paris, you neeeeeed to visit Notre Dame, it is worth it.

After exploring Notre Dame, my friends and I walked across the love lock bridges. Now I know you might be thinking that bridges was a typo, because you might of only thought that there was one love lock bridge. Actually, almost ever bridge over this river that has a wired fence type of railing holds thousands of locks!

11138592_10206886975158628_6218082268648747080_n11182230_10206886974598614_2401340502146550349_n

In fact, the Paris city workers have to cut the locks off of the bridges all the time because the locks are so heavy that they are causing the bridges to slowly wear down and eventually collapse!

I’ll write more about my trip to Paris in another post, but bye for now!

Platform 9 and 3/4 – London 2015

Platform 9 and 3/4 – London 2015

11164757_10206886867115927_8558684499936299426_nWhen I was in London in the spring of 2015 I also had the opportunity to go on a Harry Potter tour! Since Harry Potter is my favourite book I was quite excited for this tour.

The first thing we did when we went on this tour was ride a double-decker bus! It was actually really fun!

Throughout the tour we visited many different places that were significant to the Harry Potter series such as the exact building that they used as “The Leaky Cauldron”. But they painted in blue since the movies so it might not be that recognizable.

10419613_10206886949357983_3526248043995522516_nAnother location that we visited during the tour was the school the Daniel Radcliffe went to elementary school. Which was conveniently right next to the bridge that the death eaters knocked down in the 7th movie.

After that we went to platform 9 and 3/4 and unfortunately I cannot find the photos that I took there but it was hilarious! They had a trolly that was over halfway in the wall and also had a Harry Potter shop right beside it which was filled with many different Harry Potter souvenirs that are very unique19594_10206886949877996_6097108997557939109_n.

In actuality,  It would be just as fun and Harry Potter educational if you googled where the things were and went yourself. You could go on a tour if you feel more comfortable but it would be just as fun to visit these Harry Potter on your own!

Europe Trip 2015 (London)

Europe Trip 2015 (London)

In my grade 11 year, my school organized a Europe trip to visit London England, Paris France, and Barcelona Spain. The trip was scheduled for our Easter Break (beginning of April of 2015) and we’ve been planning it for 2 years! When the day finally came, we left the Calgary airport at to fly to London, our first stop. We  spent 4 days in London, and since it was almost 2 years ago I’m forgetting some of the details so I will summarize with my photos to show what we did in those 4 days.

One of the first things we did in London was to go see the London Bridge and visit the Tower of London. It was so amazing to see and visit these landmarks in person! If you ever go to London, I encourage for you to go to the Tower of London and spend the whole day there! absolutely amazing!

11156159_10206886915517137_8642492611740258553_n10959615_10206886886076401_3805564561731747055_n

11164745_10206886934397609_2416910881847087838_nThe next day we went and visited the Buckingham Palace. It was packed with people there and was hard to get close to the gates. Even though it was cool to see the palace and say that I’ve been there, it was honestly something I could have skipped on my trip because there was so many people you can’t get any decent photos of the place.

We also went on the London Eye! Which I believe is a must if you go to London! It was an amazing view of the Big Ben and the skyline of London.

15818_10206886925637390_7582250516077967100_n11173370_10206886954958123_1310313261830260220_n

On our last night in London we went on the Jack the Ripper tour. Honestly it was kind of disappointing. But we did get to explore the dark alleys and creepy parts of London and that was the fun and interesting part!

60650_10206886969158478_1329229027430307631_n

I know I did not cover everything that I did in London, but I know that in the future I will elaborate on my London trip! Bye for now!

With lots of love,
